LNG: Russia to Fall Short of 100m tons LNG Export Target by 2030

LNG

Russian LNG exports will increase to only 59-60m tons by 2030, said Alexei Gromov at the Institute for Energy and Finance Foundation cited by Reuters.

  • Arctic LNG 2 will not reach full capacity of nearly 20mtpa by 2029 and Gazprom's large LNG Baltic Sea project will not start loadings earlier than 2029, Gromov added.
  • Exports are to rise to no more than 67m tons by 2030, said Andrei Klepach at VEB.
  • Exports will likely fall far short of Russia’s 100m tons target due to western sanctions and with a European Commission aim to be free of Russian supplies by 2027.
  • Russia is aiming for an increased global LNG market share to a fifth by 2030-2035.
  • Operations at Novatek’s Arctic LNG 2 project have been halted since US sanctions were implemented in October 2024. The facility exported 6 cargoes after starting in August but has struggle to find buyers due to sanctions.
