Russia To Strengthen Cooperation With North Korea "On All Fronts"

Russian newswires reporting comments from Russian President Vladimir Putin following the conclusion of his meeting, and state lunch, with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

  • Kremlin spox says, "Russia will strengthen cooperation with North Korea on all fronts," noting particular areas of cooperation could be space and agriculture.
  • Putin says he and Kim had an "open exchange of opinions," but did not discuss, "deployment of North Korean soldiers on border with Ukraine," or nuclear war risks.
  • Addressing Western criticism that Russia's enhanced partnership violates UN Security Council resolutions that Moscow previously endorsed, Putin says: "Russia complies with international obligations, but there are opportunities for co-operation within the framework of the rules."
  • Kim's Russia trip is expected to continue tomorrow with scheduled visits to defence and civil factories in Komsomolsk and a demonstration of the capabilities of the Russian Pacific fleet in Vladivostok.
