Russia/Ukraine Ceasefire Talks Resume

UKRAINE

Ceasefire talks between Ukraine and Russia have resumed via video conference. In-person talks could take place in Turkey within the next few weeks but are complicated by mistrust of Russian intentions and a Ukrainian operation within Russian territory last night.

  • Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said a Ukrainian strike against a fuel depot in Belgorod, Russia 'has not created comfortable conditions to continue peace talks with Kyiv.'
  • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has continued to position himself as the key NATO mediator and said he is willing to host high-level talks in Turkey.
  • Erdogan also said he will talk to both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin today. Erdogan: 'Our efforts for a ceasefire and a meeting of the leaders will continue.'
