LNG: Russian LNG Vessels in Mediterranean Potentially Signal STS

 Two sanctioned Russian LNG tankers have been spotted in close proximity in the Mediterranean possibly signalling a STS may take place to try and circumvent sanctions Kpler data shows. 

  • Metagas Energy is laden with Arctic LNG 2 volumes while Mulan, next to it, is in ballast. Metagas Energy loaded cargo at Arctic LNG 2 on October 5 .
  • The Arctic LNG 2 project remains heavily sanctioned by the West, limiting discharge options. Even if transferred, the LNG faces significant constraints, as Russia’s floating storage units, Koryak and Saam, are already at full capacity following previous discharges.
  • LSEG reported earlier on Thursday that U.S. sanctions are impacting LNG flows out of Russia’s Baltic Sea Portovaya LNG and Kryogaz-Vysotsk.
