Russian Nuclear Forces Hold Drill In Ivanovo

Russian nuclear deterrence forces are exercising in the Ivanovo region, northeast of Moscow, Interfax reported citing Russia's Defence Ministry.

  • The drill involves around 1,000 troops using more than 100 vehicles, including Yard intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launchers.
  • The report is doing the rounds after U.S. President Biden wrote in a NYT op-ed that the U.S. currently "sees no indication that Russia has intent to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine."
  • In the same piece, Biden vowed to supply Ukraine with more advanced rocket systems, so that its military can "more precisely strike key targets on the battlefield," as any future negotiations with Moscow will reflect the facts on the ground.
