Russian Oil Processing Rates Fall on Norsi Outage

REFINING

Russian oil processing volumes declined to 5.5mbpd during 11-17 January, down by around 11kbpd from the average volumes during the first ten days of January, due to the loss in output of Lukoil’s Norsi refinery, a person with knowledge of the data told Bloomberg.

  • That is almost 38kbpd lower than volumes seen for most of December, Bloomberg data showed.
  • Crude processing at Norsi, in the Volga region, slumped by more than 51kbpd in the period between 11-17 January compared with the average for most of December. Refinery runs also fell at Bashneft and Slavneft plants, the person said.
  • Lukoil reported the incident on 12 January.
  • The refinery, with a capacity of around 340kbpd, is likely to restore over 70% of its gasoline production capacity in the next few days, sources told Reuters on 19 January.
  • Nationwide crude processing in the first 17 days of January averaged 5.51mbpd according to Bloomberg calculations.
