Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 Plant Cuts Runs to 5-Month Low

LNG

Russia’s largest producer of LNG in June cut its processing at Arctic LNG 2 to the lowest level since February, after US sanctions curtailed exports, Bloomberg said.

  • Novatek’s LNG plant processed 8m mcm in June, half of the levels seen in May. The data doesn’t specify the volumes that were liquified.
  • The facility has been under US sanctions since November, which has also hampered its access to Ice class tankers to transport the fuel via the Northern route to Asia.
  • Exports at the first train – a capacity of 6.6m mtpa – were set to start in Q1 but have been delayed by western sanctions.
  • However, Novatek sent a second production train to the installation site on the Arctic Gydan peninsula, Kommersant reported.
  • Gas production from the fields supporting Arctic LNG fell to 34.2m mcm in June, a five-month low.
