RWE 1H24 Power Output Falls, Renewables Output Rises

POWER

RWE’s power generation in the first half of this year declined to 58.9TWh, down from 67.6TWh for the same period last year, while renewables output increased by 19.13% on the year to 26.22TWh, the firm said.

  • Overall output was partly lower due to the firm’s nuclear exit in Germany in April 2023.
  • RWE’s offshore wind output in 1H24 increased to 5.85TWh, up from 5.25TWh last year, due to better wind conditions but despite lower fleet availability.
  • Onshore wind and solar PV output in the first half of this year rose to 17.58TWh, up from 13.76TWh due to new capacity additions in Europe and the US as well as better wind conditions in Europe.
  • Gas-fired output in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK declined on the year driven by market pricing, as well as maintenances in the UK.
  • RWE’s gas-fired power generation declined to 15.56TWh in 1H2024, down from 21.63TWh last year.
