RWE Plans Floating LNG, Pipeline In Lubmin

LNG

RWE is planning to install a floating LNG terminal off the island of Ruegen and a 38km pipeline running parallel to the idled Nord Stream 2, the state’s Economy Minister Reinhard Meyer said.

  • The planned gas link will connect the offshore terminal with the existing infrastructure on the mainland, with construction expected as early as 15 May, he added.
  • RWE has already applied for approval and technical plans are expected to be submitted in early April.
  • RWE wants the project to be treated with priority under Germany’s emergency gas legislation, which would mean that an environmental impact assessment could be waived. The plans also require a change of national LNG legislation, Meyer said.
  • The new facilities will complement the FSRU already operating in Lubmin.
