South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida have announced that they are planning to resume shuttle diplomacy as they are holding a key bilateral summit in Tokyo.
- Yoon is in the Japanese capital for a two-day visit in what is the first bilateral trip of a South Korean leader to Japan in 12 years. The visit was announced after Yoon proposed a compromise solution to the dispute over compensation for wartime South Korean forced labourers less than two weeks ago.
- South Korea announced today that it decided to withdraw its complaint filed with the World Trade Organisation against Japan, while Tokyo said it will lift restrictions on key materials needed to produce semiconductors and flexible displays, ending a spat which began a few years ago as historical disputes between the two countries escalated.
