SA Budget (24 Feb): Tax Expectations (2/2)

SOUTH AFRICA

Possible Taxes/changes:

  1. Adjusted tax Brackets - Likely, around 1% below CPI
  2. Higher Sin Tax: Likely, Along with bracket creep, adjustments to sin taxes could also help government meet its R5 billion target
  3. Wealth Taxes: possible, with analysts divided. Some say this taxing the wealthy is overplayed, if adjusted tax brackets are introduced. While others see a possible 2-3% increase on those earning R750k+, and cap gains tax.
  4. Vaccine Tax: Unlikely, given better than expected revenue collections this year. Says we think this was designed to drive home the difficulty of the fiscal situation
  5. Mining Tax: Unlikely
  6. Digital Tax: Unlikely
  7. VAT: Unlikely
