Sanctioned Tanker Liteyny Prospect Docks in China

OIL

The Russian tanker Liteyny Prospect, hit by sanctions, has docked in the Chinese port of Huanghua to unload 0.7m bbl of Sokol crude, sources told Reuters.

  • The tanker is one of six ships carrying Sokol crude that were unable to unload in India.
  • While all six were headed to China, five of them are still floating at sea following fresh sanctions on the Russian oil fleet.
  • The tanker is Liberian flagged and operated by Sovcomflot.
  • It is unclear what is preventing the other ships from unloading, Reuters said. However, ports may be wary of secondary sanctions.
  • The ports are likely to have told buyers that there is no issue with customs clearance, but it would not allow the oil to be stored for periods of time.
