SARB Names Fowkes as Adviser to Governors

SOUTH AFRICA
  • The South African Reserve Bank appointed David Fowkes as adviser to its governors, a move that in the past has been a stepping stone to becoming a policymaker, Bloomberg report.
  • The bank in 2018 named Fundi Tshazibana as adviser to the governor. A year later, she was appointed deputy governor of the bank. Fowkes’ promotion comes after Kuben Naidoo tendered his resignation as deputy governor in October.

Bloomberg write that his most recent role was in the financial markets department, where he led reform of the Monetary Policy Implementation Framework.
