Scholz: Continual Flow Of Weaponry Into Ukraine Required

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz talking to reporters states that there needs to be 'a continual flow of weaponry into Ukraine'.

  • Adds that the G7 is 'aiming to reduce reliance on Russian energy'. Says it was 'a deliberate choice' not to include energy imports in sanctions.
  • Scholz: "we will react with further sanctions on Russia if they are necessary...current sanctions are quite effective'
  • Scholz: 'I am calling on Putin to agree to ceasefire in Ukraine and establish humanitarian corridors...we need to do everything we can to prevent a famine, we are increasing our support to this effect.
  • Scholz: 'Currency in which we have to pay for energy delivieries is fixed in the contract' [referring to Russian demand for payment for gas in roubles].
  • Scholz says many people working to diversify energy, says construction of 2 LNG terminals likely to begin this year and gov't is talking to firms on how to speed up construction.
