Schumer: Hoping To Reach Framework On 'Build Back Better' By End Of Today

US

Speaking on the Senate floor, majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) says that he hopes to reach agreement on a framework for the Build Back Better bill by the end of the day.

  • Schumer: ""An agreement is within arm's length and we are hopeful that we can come to a framework agreement by the end of today. But we must, we must, continue working a little more to make sure it is the best deal possible for the American people."
  • More circumspect rhetoric from likely swing vote, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), who is taking Q&A. Some comments from him relayed by Burgess Everett at Politico: "Manchin says Biden will go to House to explain framework and work still to be done, hopes for bipartisan infrastructure vote bill in House. Manchin floats 15 percent "patriotic tax" on wealthy but calls billionaire tax "convoluted". Manchin says a deal "absolutely" can be reached today."
  • Democratic chief deputy whip Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI) quoted by wires saying that 'negotiations are moving in the right direction' and that 'hope is that common ground is reached on the reconciliation bill [Build Back Better bill] today'.
