Second EU Joint Gas Purchasing Tender To Open 26 June

Companies will be invited to register gas demand up to March 2025 in the second round of joint EU buying via the AggregateEU platform starting on 26 June according to Montelnews.

  • Customers had asked to extend the demand horizon for both LNG and pipeline gas beyond the initial 12 months ahead allowed in the first matching round, Falk Porzig, head of legal at AggregateEU platform operator Prisma, said.
  • In the first tender round, the platform matched matched 10.9bcm of sales offers with potential buyers. This was for requested monthly deliveries from June until May 2024.
  • Under EU rules approved last year companies must pool gas demand equal to at least 15% of their storage obligations next winter – about 13.5bcm – and seek offers for it through the new platform.
  • Total EU gas demand was estimated at around 380bcm in 2022 and forecast at around 330bcm for 2023, Cristina Lobillo Borrero, energy platform task force director at the European Commission, said.
