LNG: Second LNG Tanker Traversing Red Sea This Month

LNG

Second LNG tanker traversing Red Sea this month in a sign of easing tensions, Bloomberg reports.

  • The “Trader III” LNG vessel is travelling south through the Red Sea after going through the Suez Canal.
  • This could mark the second LNG vessel this month to traverse the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, following the “Salalah LNG” vessel’s voyage earlier in February.
  • Prior to this, LNG vessels had essentially halted all transport via this route since Jan. 2024, and it had been months since the last LNG vessel travelled through the Red Sea.
  • The Iran-backed Houthis promised to stop attacking s hips in the Red Sea, except those flagged in Israel, following the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal on Jan. 19.
