SECURITY: US Warns Israel Against Striking Certain Targets In Iran, KANN

SECURITY

The Middle East is bracing for another escalatory cycle as headlines on newswires suggest that Israel may be preparing to launch a retaliatory attack on Iran. It is unclear if such an attack is imminent.

  •  Sky News Arabia reports in the last hour that a 'US defence official' said: "We have information that Israel's response to Iran is coming."
  • Sky News Arabia adds: "Pentagon informed Israel of its assessment regarding striking Iranian nuclear facilities... Iranian nuclear sites have geographical complexities... Israel has part of the capabilities to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities... Bombing Iranian nuclear facilities requires air capabilities that only Washington possesses."
  • Amichai Stein at KANN reports: "The US administration offered Israel: a "compensation-temptation package" if they refrain from attacking certain targets in Iran... US officials offered Israel extensive diplomatic backing and additional military assistance if they refrained from attacking certain targets. An Israeli source tells me here: "We are always ready to listen to US. At the same time, we will do everything necessary to protect the citizens of Israel and Israel's security.""
  • The headlines come as Israel sends additional troops to Southern Lebanon and intensifies surgical strikes on high-value Hezbollah targets in Beirut. The IDF says they cannot confirm if Hashem Safieddine, the presumed next-in-line to Hezbollah leadership, was killed in an IDF airstrike on Friday.
  • Roi Kais at KANN reports: "The Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, reported today that senior officials and heads of the Shiite militias in Iraq have changed their location or moved to Iran following the elimination of Nasrallah and the increase in their attacks against Israel."
