Sen Manchin-I Will Not Be A Candidate For President

WHITE HOUSE

A short time after teasing that he was being pushed for a presidential run, Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) has said to CBS that "I'm not running for office", adding “I’m not going to be a candidate for president… I don’t need that in my life.”

  • Continues his call for a contested Democratic party primary contest, saying “Why is everyone afraid to speak out?” in reference to many Democratic lawmakers backing Harris and calling for a swift process that makes her the official nominee ASAP.
  • Manchin's comments come as VP Kamala Harris seemingly solidifies her position as the clear frontrunner for the nomination. Josh Wingrove at Bloomberg posts on X: "Harris “spent more than 10 hours Sunday placing calls to over 100 party leaders, Members of Congress, governors, labor leaders, and leaders of advocacy and civil rights organizations,” per a source familiar."
  • There is also notable coverage of the boost in donations recieved by the Harris for President campaign, with almost USD50mn taken in small donations since Joe Biden's endorsement of his veep on 21 July.
