Senegal Gas Projects Nearing Expansion Decision

NATURAL GAS

Major Senegalese gas projects are nearing final investment decisions and have been handed a boost in recent months as Germany has shown interest in importing gas from the country to move way from Russian flows.

  • The GTA and Yakaar-Teranga gas projects, Senegal's first, are expected to attract higher investment after the European Union decision to label gas investments as climate-friendly last week.
  • The projects final investment decisions for expansion are expected by September. The projects initial developments are expected to produce first gas in late 2023.
  • If the investment decision is approved, production from the fields would be expected to double from 2.5 million tonne per annum to 5 million tonne per annum.
