US DATA: Sept retail sales +1.6% vs +1.9% expected, +1.0% ex mtr veh vs 
+0.9% expected, +0.5% ex. mv and gas, +0.4% ex auto, bldg materials, gas 
and food services, indicating the bulk of the strength was in vehicles, 
gas, and building materials after the storms, as expected. There were 
upward revisions to both July and August. Commerce made no comment 
on the impact of the hurricanes. Sept mtr veh sales +3.6% after -2.1% in 
Aug, gas +5.8% (total ex. gas +1.2%), bldg mat +2.1%, food services 
+0.8%. Sales were mixed for the other categories, but a 1.0% rise in 
grocery store sales stands out. 3Q total sales +3.8% vs 2Q average at an 
annual rate and were +4.1% ex motor vehicles and +2.6% ex autos, 
building materials, gas, and food services, suggesting a solid gain for
