Serbia To Expand Gas Storage Ahead Of Next Winter

NATURAL GAS

Srbijagas is planning to increase its gas reserves and capacity of its main storage Banatski Dvor before the next winter season, Srbijagas CEO Dusan Bajatovic said.

  • The firm plans to increase reserves after Hungary increased costs to use its rented depots, Bajatovic said.
  • “It’s better to have the fuel stored in own country” to cut costs, improve energy security, he added.
  • Srbijagas plans to pump additional 200mcm into Banatski Dvor, on top of some 550mcm already there, after mild temperatures reduced consumption this heating season.
  • Serbia still has around 200mcm of gas stored in Hungary, enabling the country to build up reserves to more than 900mcm before 4Q23.
