Shippers Pay for Colonial Pipeline Space to Move Fuels

OIL PRODUCTS

A segment of the Colonial Pipeline which is rarely full is booked for months amid a supply glut on the US Gulf Coast according to Bloomberg.

  • Shippers are paying a premium to move gasoline, diesel and jet fuel to the New York Harbor area to help ease the excess supplies. US Gulf Coast processing rates have risen as refineries return from maintenance. Cheap gasoline and diesel prices also incentivise exports and end of year tax requirements encourage suppliers to minimise inventories as much as possible before the new year.
  • Colonial’s line 3 has been fully allocated from cycles 59 in late October, to the most recent cycle 71 in late December according to T4 data.
  • Line 3 space from Greensboro to Linden for cycle 70 traded as high as 7c/gal on Wednesday. Line space normally trades when the pipeline is full.
