Slovakia "On Track" to Extend Russia Crude Import Exemption

OIL

Slovakia is “on track” to achieve an extension to the exemption allowing for the export of oil products made from Russian crude according to Bloomberg citing Slovak Premier Robert Fico.

  • Slovakia has an exemption from the EU sanctions against Russia to allow for the export of products manufactured from Russian crude until Dec 5.
  • The only Slovak refinery, Slovnaft, is still predominantly dependent on Russian oil imports with exports from the refinery expected to be limited if the exemption is not extended.
  • The export of Slovakian oil products includes supplies to the Czech Republic with Czech PM Petr Fiala supporting the Slovak request.
  • The EU should decide on the extended exemption as part of the new 12th sanctions package against Russia.
