SOUTH AFRICA: Cabinet Negotiations To Kick Off Today

  • President Cyril Ramaphosa could unveil his cabinet line-up on Sunday or early next week, according to the latest report from the Daily Maverick. The African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA) and Patriotic Alliance (PA) have tabled first "wish lists" and negotiators, including party leaders Ramaphosa and Steenhuisen, are expected to sit down for high-level talks on Friday. The report notes that Deputy President Paul Mashatile, Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe and Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa are likely to keep their current posts. The DA is seeking to take several portfolios from the economic cluster, as well as the Deputy Finance Minister position.
  • The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) has become the latest party to join the government of national unity (GNU), bringing the number of seats controlled by the pact to 280 out of the 400 seats in the National Assembly.
  • South Africa will sell inflation-linked bonds today.
