South Korea May Provide Military Aid To Ukraine

SOUTH KOREA

South Korean President Yoon gave a wide ranging interview with Reuters. The President stated South Korea may deliver military aid to Ukraine if a large scale attack on civilians occurs. Previously South Korea had ruled out giving military aid to Ukraine.

  • On the issue of North Korea, the President noted he will seek tangible outcomes on allied efforts to respond to North Korean threats. Note next week President Yoon will visits the US. South Korea will also continue to develop "ultra-high-performance, high-power weapons" to fend off the North Korean threat.
  • President Yoon remains open to peace talks/dialogue with North Korea but will not hold any surprise summits with the North Korean leader.
  • Finally, the President stated South Korea opposes any change to the Taiwan status quo, particularly by force. He stated, this issue, like the one with North Korea, is a global one.
