Spanish Gas Imports From Russia Rose to 27.9% in May

Spain imported 27.9% of all natural gas imports in May from Russia, compared with 11.9% in May 2022, Cores data showed.

  • Spain imported 9.663TWh of natural gas from Russia in May, compared with 4.357TWh a year earlier. In April, imports from Russia accounted for 17% of the total natural gas imports.
  • Spain’s total natural gas imports in May fell by 5.4% year on year to 34.683TWh.
  • Spanish gas demand stood at 24.52TWh in May, down by 4.7% year on year, Enagas data showed.
  • Spanish Energy Minister Teresa Ribera told Reuters in May that European Union countries would agree "sooner rather than later" to ban imports of LNG from Russia.
