Speaker Sets PM Vote For Thursday Afternoon, EC Yet To Make Decision On Shareholding Case

THAILAND

Thai Enquirer reports that House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha announced that lawmakers will hold a vote on the Prime Minister at 17:00 local time on Thursday, following a six-hour debate on the matter. The Speaker reportedly allocated four hours for MP speeches and two hours for senatorial speeches. The need for a re-vote will be considered if the first round proves inconclusive.

  • Pheu Thai leader Chonlanan Srikaew confirmed that he will nominate Move Forward Party (MFP) leader Pita Limjaroenrat as candidate for Prime Minister at Thursday's session of the National Assembly. He was unable to estimate the number of Senators willing to vote for Pita, who currently needs 65 senatorial votes to become Prime Minister, given that the Speaker traditionally abstains.
  • Meanwhile, Election Commission (EC) head Ittiporn Boonpracong said that the panel has not reached a conclusion on whether to refer Pita's shareholding case to the Constitutional Court and will need to hold another meeting on the matter tomorrow. He said that the fact-finding committee has complete its probe and the EC is currently reviewing the results.
