Speakers this week

BOE

This week we will hear from both doves (albeit Tenreyro has had her last MPC meeting already) while Governor Bailey and Chief Economist Pill both appear on panels in Sintra.

  • We think that Pill’s comments will be most interesting as he will be speaking at the panel “Lessons from recent experiences in macroeconomic forecasting” on Wednesday at 11:30BST.
  • Bailey’s panel will be at 14:30BST on Wednesday alongside Lagarde and other central bank heads.
  • Dhingra will discuss the UK economic outlook on Tuesday at 9:15BST, giving the keynote speech at a Women in Economics event – although it will likely be an interesting speech, we think that as she is clearly an outlier on the MPC that there will be little market reaction.
  • Tenreyro will make two appearances this week – first on a Sintra panel on Tuesday at 9:30BST with the theme of “Monetary policy in the face of multiple supply shocks” and then on Friday after markets are closed she will give her valedictory speech at a Resolution Foundation / SPE joint event. But again we don’t expect these appearances to be market moving – even more so as she has voted for the last time.
