Stats SA Reports Q4 Unemployment, Tsy Holds Weekly Bond Auction

  • The African National Congress (ANC) complied with a court order and handed over its cadre deployment records to the Democratic Alliance (DA). The main opposition party said it was studying the documents and would "update the public as soon as possible." The DA had claimed that the records, covering the period when current President Cyril Ramaphosa headed the ANC's cadre deployment committee, could provide evidence to substantiate accusations of state capture by ANC officials.
  • Statistics SA will release unemployment data for 4Q2023 at 09:30GMT/11:30SAST. The jobless rate may have ticked lower to 31.6% from 31.9% prior, according to a Bloomberg survey.
  • The leading indicator fell to 111.0 in December from the revised 111.9 in November, according to data from the South African Reserve Bank.
  • The Treasury holds its weekly bond auction today, while the focus is on tomorrow's budget speech.
