STOCKS: Stocks are mostly lower in Asia on Monday, gains in the US on Friday led
to a positive open giving way to losses as the session progressed. In Japan the
Nikkei 225 is down 27 points at 23,608, the index was higher but dropped at the
start of the afternoon session as the yen strengthened against the dollar. On
the Nikkei 225 5/11 sectors are in the green, led lower Consumer Staples and
Healthcare.
- In Australia the ASX 200 is up 31 points, gaining steadily from the open.
Australian shares were playing catch up after being closed on Friday for the
National Day holiday. 10/11 sectors are in the green, Real Estate is the only
decliner. Telecommunications and Health Care are the best performing sectors.
- In China the Shanghai Comp is down 19 points at 3,538, in Hong Kong the Hang
Seng is down 92 points at 33,063. Shares on the mainland and in Hong Kong were
both in positive territory at the start of the session, but have dropped as
sentiment turned negative in Asia. Wynn Macau are one of the stocks dragging the
index down, dropping around 6% after allegations on Friday that the Wynn Resorts
founder had harassed women who worked for the company.
