Stoltenberg Talks Up Swedish/Finnish Membership, But Turkey Still Wary

  • Stoltenberg once again states that "It is time to welcome Sweden and Finland as full fledged members of the alliance". However, the main obstacle to the Nordic nations' membership in the form of Turkey remains in place. Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu states that both countries are taking steps in line with trilateral memorandum, "We welcome new Swedish govt's tougher stance on terrorism...Yet, there aren’t any concrete steps on delivery of terrorists and freezing terror assets"
  • On potential Ukrainian NATO membership, Stoltenberg says that a precondition is that 'they prevail', and states that more air defence support to Kyiv is essential.
