TURKEY: Stories since Europe went home re: Turkey, all via RTRS:
- President Erdogan said on Monday that a lockdown would be imposed starting on
Saturday and ending after Tuesday, May 19, which is a national holiday. Ankara
has imposed lockdowns in major cities over the past four weekends to slow the
spread of COVID-19.
- President Erdogan said on Monday those who tried to plot against the Turkish
economy using foreign financial institutions would be foiled.
- Turkey's sovereign wealth fund said on Monday it moved to increase three state
banks' core capital by a total of TRY21bn in an action aimed at supporting
capital structure and adequacy. The Turkey Wealth Fund, which owns state-owned
Ziraat Bank & a majority stake in Halkbank, will acquire a holding in Vakifbank
as a result of the capital injection, the fund also said. Reuters reported last
week Turkey's plans to inject about TRY20bn of new capital to state banks.
