Supply Chain Fears As Border Queues Increase

  • U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday “encouraged Argentina to put forward a strong economic policy framework that will return the country to growth,” according to a State Department press release.
    • Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero called on the U.S. for support at the IMF.
    • According to the Argentine statement, “Blinken maintained that he firmly supports the negotiations with the IMF and aspires toward a positive resolution soon”.
  • AFP reported that up to 2,000 trucks are backed up at Argentina's main border crossing with Chile due to tougher Covid-19 testing requirements, Argentine haulers said on Tuesday, adding that the supply chain could suffer.
    • Some 900 trucks a day usually pass through the Christ Redeemer crossing from the Argentine province of Mendoza into Chile. However, those have been backed up for two days due to tougher health controls imposed on Argentine haulers by Chile, the Argentine Federation of Freight Business Entities said in a statement.
