Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist will travel to the United States later today to meet with his counterpart US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon.
- Swedish Department of Defence says that the meeting will 'focus on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Sweden’s forthcoming application for NATO membership.'
- Mr Hultqvist will also meet with members of the US Congress during his visit to Washington.
- Foreign ministers of Sweden and Finland also plan to travel to Turkey soon for talks on Ankara’s objections to their NATO membership.
- Paul McLeary of Politico on another recent development: 'Norway, Denmark and Iceland say in joint statement if Finland or Sweden are attacked "before obtaining NATO membership, we will assist Finland and Sweden by all means necessary.” The US is treaty-bound to provide for Iceland's defense, curious how this works.'
