Swiss Hydropower Stocks Further Narrow Surplus To Long-Term Average

Swiss hydropower stock levels grew slower than in the previous week last week to 62.8% of capacity, or 5.595TWh, as of 10 July, narrowing the discount to the long-term average, BFE dats showed.

  • Hydro reserves narrowed the surplus to the long-term average – 1997-2022 - to 1.4 percentage points, compared to 3.2 percentage points a week prior.
  • Stocks rose by 4.4 percentage points last week, or 288GWh, compared to an increase of 4.4 percentage points the week before.
  • The largest regional increase was seen in the canton of Valais of 198GWh, where around 45% of Switzerland’s hydropower reserves are located. Stocks in Graubunden and Ticino rose by 27GWh and 30GWh, respectively.
