Switzerland Awards 82GWh of Winter Reserve Capacity

Switzerland has awarded offers totalling 82GWh in the second winter capacity reserve auction that concluded on 15 August according to the BFE.

  • A total of €5.6mn will be awarded in the second auction, compared with €3.3mn in the first round.
  • The average awarded price stood at €68.2/MWh, up from €53.17/MWh in the first round.
  • A total of 93 offers for 443GWh of capacity have been submitted in the second round.
  • The government awarded offers totalling 63GWh of capacity in the first winter reserve auction on 25 July.
  • The next auction will take place in the coming weeks.
  • Switzerland aims to secure 300GWh +/-100GWh of hydropower for the country’s 2024/2025 winter reserve.
