Taiwan Dollar Gains Even As USD Picks Up

Some comments from the Chinese government crossing the wires, says hopes US sticks to "one-China" principle, and hopes that the US will proceed on the issue with caution.

  • Tensions have been escalating between Taiwan and China, and the US's stance towards the issue. Yesterday Taiwan reported large incursions by Chinese warplanes for the second day running. These operations follow a statement by the US State Department that called on China to "cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure against Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialogue" with Taiwan. The statement added the US's "commitment to Taiwan is rock solid."
  • USD/TWD last down 0.226 at 27.95.
