Tass-Lukashenko Warns Of Halt To European Gas Supplies If Sanctions Imposed

Russia's state-run Tass reporting that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has once again warned that gas supplies from Russia running through Belarus to Europe could be halted in the event that the EU imposes fresh sanctions on Minsk in response to the migrant crisis created in Eastern Europe by the Lukashenko regime.

  • Lukashenko has previously threatened the same, only to be slapped down by Russian President Vladimir Putin stating that the supplies to Europe via the Yamal pipeline would be maintained.
  • While Russia remains extremely influential in Belarus, Lukashenko is viewed as something of a 'loose cannon', and therefore the damaging action of cutting off gas supplies to Europe - while unlikely - cannot be ruled out entirely.
