CHINA PRESS: The current Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor (QDII)
programme will reform to better assist capital account convertibility and the
opening up of the financial market, said Shanghai Securities News on Thursday.
More domestic investors will likely be able to apply for QDII quotas, which have
not been changed in more than 2 years at USD89.99 billion, the report said.
Eased capital outflow pressure and more balanced international payments will
help the reform process of QDII, and the large amount of domestic assets ready
to invest in overseas assets creates demands for more QDII quotas, stated the
report, citing Zhao Qingming, the chief economist at Institution for Financial
Derivatives under China Financial Futures Exchange.
