EGB FLOWS: The ECB has just released its Q3 statistics on euro area insurance
corporations.
- On the asset side, European insurers saw fixed income assets decline to
E3.311tln from E3.313tln in Q2. Most of the decline was a price effect and funds
bought a net E1bln of debt. Debt securities now make up 42.2% of total assets.
- Debt securities issued by governments amounted to E1,544bln and showed a very
marginal decline in Q3. 
- The report noted a strong home bias in the holdings of government bonds i.e.
E1,050bln in the country's bonds where the insurance company is located and only
E494bln in other euro area bonds. There is E453bln of MFI bonds in their
portfolios.
