US: The Office of the US Trade Representative has asked for comments on the
extension of exclusions to tariffs on China, for up to 12 months. This will
include exclusions that were made on or before March 26 2020 - includes a broad
variety of items (including imports related to the fight against COVID-19, which
were exempted from tariffs in March, such as oxygen masks and ventilators).
- Unclear however whether this potential extension of those exemptions signifies
a significant thawing in recent tensions with China. For now the USTR appears to
be ignoring calls made this week by various industry groups to broaden
exemptions to other products that are used by workers/industries that claim to
be "essential" (ie electronics; chemicals used in cleaning products).
