CHINA: The outstanding volume of wealth management products (WMPs) in Beijing's
banking sector totaled CNY3.16 trillion as of the end of July, a drop of 2.2%
compared with the end of last year, indicating financial institutions have been
more cautious in conducting WMP transactions, Jiang Ping, spokeswoman for the
Beijing Banking Regulatory Bureau, said at a press conference on Thursday. Banks
raised a total of CNY6.77 trillion through WMPs in the first half of the year, a
fall of 5.5% compared with the same period last year, while interbank WMP
transactions decreased 33.8%, Jiang noted. Mortgage loan quotas approved by the
Beijing Banking Regulatory Bureau continued to fall to CNY15.85 billion in July,
the lowest monthly total this year, Jiang said.
