  • Hunt is seen as on the most 'one nation' moderate wing of the Conservative party, having contested the leadership against former PM Boris Johnson in 2019. Since then he has sat as a select committee chair and been a vocal critic of both the Johnson and Truss administrations.
  • Appointing Hunt would be a huge capitulation from PM Liz Truss, given that it is unlikely he would come to office without guarantees of significant, if not total, control of economic policy.
