Tomas Holub Says Current Level Of Rates Is Restrictive Enough

Long-standing hawkish dissenter in the Bank Board, Tomas Holub, told E15 that the current level of the CNB's policy rate is "restrictive enough," confirming his shift to the on-hold stance intimated in the record of the Bank Board's most recent rate review.

  • The minutes of the CNB's monetary policy meeting last month showed that Holub yet again dissented to call for a 25bp rate hike, but also told his colleagues that the June meeting was the last chance to raise rates in the current inflation episode.
  • In his latest interview for E15, Holub said that the CNB "should have been more forceful." He now expects inflation to be "low enough" in late 2024 or 2025.
