US DATA PREVIEW
US DATA PREVIEW: Traders eyed Friday 8:30am ET US October jobs. The MNI
economist poll had median estimates of +308K Oct. jobs, 4.2% jobless rate, 0.2%
Avg Hrly Earnings gain, 34.4 avg workweek.
- CS economists expect 270K Oct. jobs "after a weather-driven decline of 33K in
Sept;" they expect US unemployment rate "ticked up to 4.3% and average hourly
earnings increased just 0.1% MoM after a strong 0.5% MoM gain in September."
- SocGen economists noted "consensus expects that nonfarm payrolls rebounded by
310,000 in October. We are on board with the idea of a solid bounce, but we
suspect that job gains may have been closer to 200,000. To be sure, there is
upside risk to our estimate, but historical experience after Hurricane Katrina
showed that hard-hit industries struggled to spring back in the following month,
and that phenomenon may have repeated this October. Meanwhile, given the extent
of the damage and flooding from Irma and Harvey, there may have been some
lingering weather effects that hindered job growth."
- Amherst Pierpont: Stephen Stanley: +330K Oct NFP
- CIBC: +260K Oct NFP
