US: Trump Denies WAPO Story On Watering Down Tariffs

US President-elect Donald Trump has issued a statement on Truth Social denying a widely circulated reportpublished by the Washington Post this morning claiming that Trump's aides are exploring "tariff plans that would be applied to every country but only cover critical imports".   • Trump: "The story in the Washington Post, quoting so-called anonymous sources, which don't exist, incorrectly states that my tariff policy will be pared back. That is wrong. The Washington Post knows it's wrong. It's just another example of Fake News."
  • Trump offered no new information on his tariff strategy in an interview with Hugh Hewitt this morning but suggested he and  Chinese President Xi Jinping "will probably get along very well."
  • Trump told Hewitt: "...their economy is not doing very well right now, and they need us very badly. I believe we will, you know, I had a great relationship until COVID. That was a that was a bridge too far, but I had a great relationship with President Xi."
