US: Trump: Make Your Product In America Or Pay A Tariff

US

US President Donald Trump, speaking via video link to the World Economic Forum in Davos, says that since he has taken office he has taken “rapid action” to reverse “radical left policies” from the Biden administration, which he claims caused high inflation and ballooned the deficit.

  • Trump namechecks the executive orders he signed on Day 1, tacking closely to his inaugural speech on January 20.
  • Trump says his energy policies will reduce the cost of “just about everything” and make the US a “manufacturing superpower,” and the “world capital of AI and crypto.”
  • Trump says the Republican majority in Congress are going to pass “the largest tax cut in American history, including massive tax cuts for workers and families,” and “big tax cuts for domestic producers and manufacturers.”
  • Trump says that he is “working with the Democrats on getting an extension of the original Trump tax cuts.”
  • Trump says: “My message to the world is simple: Come make your product in America and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation in the world,” adding “we’re bringing them down very substantially even from the original Trump tax cuts.”
  • Trump continues: “But if you don’t make your product in America, which is your prerogative, then very simply you will have to pay a tariff. Differing amounts but a tariff that will direct hundreds of billions of dollars and even trillions of dollars into our Treasury to strengthen our economy and pay down debt.”
