Former President Donald Trump is shortly due to deliver remarks at the Economic Club of New York. LIVESTREAM
- Former Trump economic aide Larry Kudlow said on his Fox Business program: “Expect Mr. Trump to lay out his plans to rejuvenate the economy by reducing tax rates and rolling back onerous and costly red tape regulations,” adding that the former president will likely highlight his aggressive approach to trade.
- The remarks come after Vice President Kamala Harris made her first clear break with Biden's economic agenda yesterday proposing a capital gains tax rate hike to 28%, significantly lower than the 44.6% effective rate Biden called for in a July budget request. Harris' proposal is likely a signal to Wall Street that she intends to pursue a more moderate tax agenda than Biden.
- Bloomberg notes: "Trump has his own economic weak spots with conservatives — including tax proposals that could cost $10.5 trillion over a decade. That kind of spending might not sit well with fiscally austere Republicans on Capitol Hill."
- Ex-Trump economic aide Paul Winfree told Semafor: “I think that the economy is different today than it was in 2017. That sensitivity to deficits is going to shape the policies they’re going to need to confront next year.”
