UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has outlined new Brexit measures for Northern Ireland.

  • Arj Singh of Inews: "Northern Ireland Protocol: Sweeping new powers published by Liz Truss could allow ministers to tear up Brexit deal indefinitely."
  • The bill outlines green and red channels for goods - businesses to choose to follow UK or EU standards.
  • Northern Ireland to benefit from the same tax breaks as the rest of the UK.
  • The bill will normalise governance arrangements to limit the role of the European court of justice. Unionists have long claimed that the UK should have final say on the arbitration of laws affecting Northern Ireland.
  • Truss justified the unilateral declaration: “... the serious situation in Northern Ireland means we cannot afford to allow the situation to drift."
  • Earlier today Truss said she discussed plans for NI with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
